Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. When she was just five when she left for Oxfordshire and attended an Oxfordshire-based Dragon School. Emma's dream was to become an actor. As a young girl of 6, she enrolled in the Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch in which she was taught classes for acting, singing as well as dancing. She had already performed in numerous Stagecoach as well as school plays when she turned ten. Casting began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by Emma's Oxford Theater instructor. After eight consecutive auditions, the producer David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected for the roles of the three leads Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. It also was one of the top-rated films of 2001. The opening weekend and day ticket sales were record-breaking. Film critics praised the film as well as the performances of the three young stars. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British paper, praised her for her exceptional performance. Emma received the Young Artist Award as the most outstanding young actor in the Feature Film. Emma was awarded five times for her performance in the movie.
